history ebay
eBay was founded in 1995 by Pierre Omidyar as AuctionWeb , part of which includes a personal website , writing Omidyar donated to the Ebola virus . This site was originally owned by Echo Bay Technology Group , Omidyar's consulting firm . Omidyar had tried to register the domain name EchoBay.com but the name was already owned by someone else , so he shortened his name to eBay.com . eBay is headquartered in San Jose , California , Meg Whitman has been the president of eBay and its CEO since March 1998

Ebay now due to be the biggest success as the first to use the momentum to get the user as much as possible . Originally it was done for free by offering her serve . Once users start much , then eBay began charging fees for listing fee .
At that time , some competitors began to emerge , and some even offer free listing fee . Fortunately for eBay , when the number of users on its website has achieve significant amounts.

In fact when the giant open Yahoo! Auctions and Yahoo! offer free listing fee also , eBay is not affected . Some eBay users who are tempted Yahoo! bid and switch to it eventually returned to the fold of eBay because the buyers could not find a lot of sellers , and the sellers can not find buyers that much .

Here we can see how valuable the network effect . EBay is the value of the network to swell so that even eBay to raise
listing fee it was , not many think to move to another heart .

Through this network effect , eBay has created a great value ( exponential when compared with the number of users ) , and at the same time able to get most of the value .

Interestingly , Yahoo! is learning from the experience of successfully reverse the situation when entering Japan . Yahoo! Japan precedes entry into eBay and it was the only market where eBay can not compete and eventually eBay decided to get out of Japan .

The importance of network effects in the online auction industry is trying to make eBay and Yahoo! precede each share into other regional markets though at first they have to lose it first.
